Welcome to the Light Revolution: Questions from Viva Community

At VivaRays, we're not just about Circadian products; we're about inspiring a community of health seekers and high achievers to experience the freedom, flow, and vitality of living in rhythm with nature's light and dark cycles.

Join us as we delve into the insightful questions from our lovely community, exploring how the harmonious interplay of light and dark cycles can significantly enhance our health and vitality.👇

Q1: I’ve read that red light from sunrise sets your skin up for handling UV during the day, and then sunset helps heal any damage done. Does all of the skin that was exposed during the day need to be exposed to the red light to reap the benefits?

A1:That's a great question! If your skin isn't reacting or getting burned, then it's perfectly fine. However, if you experience any burning or reactions, you should start by gradually exposing your skin to the early morning sunlight to precondition it. Also, I'd like to mention that there are significant benefits to cold exposure. Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying this occasionally can really pay off and provide great health benefits.

Q2: What should I do if I wake up before sunrise and need to work around artificial light?

A2: If you wake up before sunrise, avoid exposing yourself to 6500K LED lights, which trick your brain into thinking it's 12 noon at dawn. If you need to be around light, wear VivaRays Evening Glasses until the sun starts rising. These glasses are engineered to filter out harmful artificial light and transform the color temperature to 1900K, which is similar to the color temperature of fire. This is the light our ancestors used before sunrise or after sunset.

Q3: How do naps affect the circadian rhythm for adults and children?

A3: Most adults experience a dip in alertness and energy in the early afternoon, making this the ideal time for a nap. Schedule your nap during the natural afternoon lull, typically between 1 PM and 3 PM. This aligns with your circadian rhythm and can help improve alertness and productivity. Aim for short naps of around 20-30 minutes to enter the lighter stages of sleep without progressing to deep sleep, as deep sleep during the day often causes grogginess upon waking. Wear a blackout mask to completely block out light and maximize restful sleep during your nap.

  • Here's our 3D blackout Sleeping mask made of GOTS organic cotton.
  • Put in organic beeswax earplugs to block out noise and improve the quality of your nap.
  • Avoid evening naps as they disrupt your nighttime sleep. Try to take naps at the same time each day to reinforce your body's circadian rhythm, although this is not a must.

For Children:

Duration Matters: The ideal nap duration varies with age. For example, newborns may nap for 3-4 hours a day, while toddlers may have a 1-2 hour nap. Ensure your child's last nap of the day ends at least a few hours before bedtime to ensure they are tired at night. Limit Screen Time: Reduce screen time before naps and bedtime, as it can interfere with falling asleep. Ensure the nap area is dark (using a sleeping mask), quiet, and comfortable. White noise machines can help drown out background noise.

Q4: I don’t have sleeping problems, but I experience daytime fatigue. What could be the issue?

A4: Many people think they sleep just fine, but that's not always true. Even if you're getting 8 to 10 hours of sleep and still wake up feeling tired or run out of energy throughout the day, it's a sign of a sleep issue. Remember, a sleep problem isn't just about trouble falling asleep or waking up during the night. It's also about how energetic you feel when you get up in the morning and how well that energy holds up during your day.

Q5: What are your thoughts on using sunscreen?

A5: Most sunscreens are very harmful because they have photo-toxic ingredients. These are substances that release toxins when exposed to light. In rare occasions where someone needs to be in direct sunlight for many hours and can't wear a hat or find shade—like surfing for hours—we recommend natural sunscreens. A good choice is a mix of tallow cream (Grass fed and grass finished) and zinc oxide.
